It is national napping day! Did you get your nap on?

I hope everyone had an awesome weekend. I did for the most part. Spent most of the weekend home with Mike and Remy relaxing. We were able to tackle a few things around the house and out in the yard. But I have to say Sunday was hard. This whole daylight savings time thing always confuses me. Especially because I always seem to forget that one clock that I happen to look at ALL DAY. So almost all day I kept thinking I was on the right path but I was an hour behind the rest of my city! Gah!

Let’s talk about napping and why it is important for many people to take naps. Like me!

I suffer from a few different problems that cause my sleep cycle to be inconsistent. Besides being fatigued all day everyday it also causes my body to hurt because my body doesn’t get the rest that it needs to work properly. Naps help me to a certain extent but not 100% and not always.

With me it’s a cycle of the pain is keeping me awake but the lack of sleep is causing me pain! One of the many struggles of my life.

During my husband’s work week 75% of the time I am up before the alarm goes off @ 5:00 a.m., 5% of the time I do not get up and the other 20% I wake up when the alarm goes off or shortly afterwards. So normally I am ready for my nap by 7:00 a.m.. I nap usually for 1-3 hours depending on the sleep I got the night before.

Although naps definitely do not make up for inadequate/inconsistent sleep cycles that more than 80% of Americans suffer from, they do offer a small improvement on mood and sometimes will give you a fresh burst of short-lived energy! At least for me they do.

What happens when I don’t take a nap?

Do you really want to know? I’m warning you it’s not pretty! I turn into a raging “B” word from hell! I am quite often confused with the Tazmanian Devil.

That image about sums it up!

Anyways, I really hope you were able to cash in on the #NationalNappingDay free nap. And it helped you get your burst of energy! But you have to remember NAPPING isn’t always good. You have to nap at the right time and for the right amount of time in order for you to benefit from the nap and not have ill side effects like sleep inertia or night time sleep disturbances.

  • Unfortunately, I don’t get a lot of time to take naps. We have a snow day tomorrow so maybe I will take advantage and take one during the day.

    • You should totally take advantage of the snow day. what better way to nap than when its snowing or raining out

  • I am TOTALLY down for a nap everyday! I too, like you, have sleep issues. I actually have an appointment coming up with my primary care doc to discuss a sleep study. I hope you find a way for better sleep yourself. In the mean time, napping is wonderful!

    • Good luck with your appointment. I havent had a sleep study yet. Everytime we set one up something regarding insurance gets in the way. such a hassle!

I didn’t get my nap in, darn it! I did let my husband nap though, since he hasn’t been feeling well, so I think that counts lol!

  • Neely

My newborn is currently having a nap and I really wish I could have one too! So much to do though!

  • Crystal

I love a good afternoon nap! I always feel so much more refreshed afterwards. Didn’t know that there was a national day, but I’m thrilled to celebrate!

  • Robin Rue

Oh I wish. I can’t even remember the last time I took a nap. I need a make up day for today 😉

  • I am not much of a napper, but there are those times when I just crash and a nap does the trick.

  • I totally missed national napping day but that’s OK because I try to take a nap during the afternoon a few times a week.

  • Chloe

I didn’t get my nap in! Looks like I might have to catch up today 😀 😀

  • skinandsatori

I don’t get many naps any more. With 2 kids on different nap times it just never happens. But those rare, elusive days when they both have a nap at the same time.. You better believe mummy is too!!

  • Divya Budhraja

I need to be better about my napping. Sometimes I try to take a nap but then get distracted by my devices (phone, Kindle, etc.)

  • Bismah Abdelgawad

I don’t usually take a nap during the day unless I become really tired. With two preschoolers with me all day it is not easy to get a nap unless my husband has a day off work.

    • what about taking naps with the kids?

  • CourtneyLynne Storms

Oooo now this is a day I could get behind!!! However I did not get a nap in on nap day! Wish I had though!

    • im sorry you werent able to get one in, theres always next year 🙂

  • I am all about naps, whenever I can get them! I have insomnia, so sometimes, naps are when I get the best sleep!

    • I hear you on that. Naps are great for me for the best sleep also

  • KokosSecrets

I know someone that want to be napping all day!! I’m the kind of person that can’t nap at all
